The Development History of Wheel Hub Bearings

Modern automobiles mostly use tapered bearings and bearing units, which have now evolved to the fourth generation. This design can effectively disperse the axial force caused by wheel impacts.

First Generation Wheel Hub Bearings:

Utilizing a combination of two angular contact ball bearings, with the outer ring as a single unit. After adjusting the working clearance, lubrication is done once, requiring no maintenance. Lifespan is approximately 50,000 kilometers.

Second Generation Wheel Hub Bearings:

Using the same principle as the first generation, but with an added support housing on the outer ring, increasing rigidity and reducing stress points on the bearing. Lifespan is approximately 100,000 kilometers.

Third Generation Wheel Hub Bearings:

Building on the second generation, a flange connecting to the universal joint is added, allowing the bearing to rotate with minimal stress, effectively improving reliability. Lifespan is 150,000-200,000 kilometers.

Fourth Generation Wheel Hub Bearings:

Building on the third generation, a ball joint housing is added, and the precision of the wheel hub bearing is improved. The driving force of the half-shaft and the vibration force of the tire are more dispersed, and the bearing essentially rotates without bearing any stress.
